Why are there so many religions?

Why are religions so different from each other?

There are too many answers to these questions to list here!
Instead, let me offer a few ideas that may help.

Religion is a culture based doctrine intended to guide a culture in practicing spirituality. Since there are so many cultures throughout the world, by default there will be different religions. The cultural differences are going to bring differences to the religions.

In reality, religions are all the same at a very pure level. They gather their community and use rituals to guide them in practicing spirituality. They try to teach and guide the community in living a good life. Simple. That's what religion is all about.

The differences come from the cultural differences.
What is important to the culture? What are the core spiritual beliefs of the culture? How does the culture sustain life? How does the culture honor death? These are all things that will form the doctrine of the religion. Geography and history guide the development of culture and that guides the development of it's spirituality.

It is said that there is only one God. How can this be if different religions define God differently? Simple - God manifests itself differently to different peoples.

Don't let the differences get in the way of accepting something good. It's like the different trees in a forest. They are all trees and they all produce vital oxygen and are integral components of the local ecosystem. They just look different.

Happy Days!
